Day 19 - Outline Your Typical Day

Writer's picture: Lindsay VeeLindsay Vee

This could get pretty mundane very quickly, so I'm going to keep it short. On a good day, Gus will sleep until 7 which is absolutely glorious. Also on those good days, Gus didn't decide to wake up at 2 or 3 just for fun. We're still working on sleeping through the night, but I just tell myself he doesn't want to more than a few hours without seeing me. Sometimes that helps the early hours hurt less, but not by a large margin. After we get up, Gus is obviously starving so he gets a bottle and then hangs out in his monkey chair as we call it while I eat. His first wake window is about 2-2.5 hours long. I try to get myself ready for the day and then spend the rest of the time focused on him, playing on the floor, eating solid food, whatever we decide to get into. This window always feels super short, which is a good thing.

After Gus is asleep around 9 or 10, it's a mad dash to get some items checked off the to do list. Usually I'm on my computer working. It's been easier to get interviews scheduled in the last month because this nap time has been super consistent. This week in particular is absolutely crazy with interviews before my surgery on Friday. I'm not sure where the month of April has gone, but it has truly disappeared. By 11 or 12 Gus needs to be awake again. As of today he's been sleeping on his tummy with his hinny up in the air. It's just about the cutest thing I've seen him do so far. Naturally, he needs to eat again and so do I. We spend quite a bit of time on that before getting into some chores around the house. Folding laundry with Gus can be quite entertaining for the group because he likes playing peek-a-boo with the clothes in between the actual folding. Sometimes I'll throw him in his monkey chair again and I'll get on the Peloton, but that does not usually last long. Gus can entertain himself for awhile but it doesn't take long until he needs another snack or a diaper change. That kid HATES a wet diaper, which I can't blame him for because I wouldn't either but sometimes he's a tick dramatic about it. No idea where he gets that from...

Around 2 it's time for his second nap of the day. I usually have more interviews scheduled or I need to get to writing from those I talked to in the morning. If we've had a long night, sometimes I'll nap right along with Gus. He doesn't like to share his crib so I have to nap with the dogs on my bed since it actually belongs to them. It's usually after this nap that I'll take Gus for a walk around the base. I'm super blessed that the base has so many walking paths that I can jump out the back door and we're off. We have a couple of favorite routes. It does us both a lot of good to get outside when it's nice. We're very much fair weather walkers. I like to blame it on the fact that Gus is a baby, but it's really me just being a weeny. On a good day, Kennedy gets home around 5 and then I'll get something figured out for supper. By the time it's ready and we eat it, it's time to get Gus to bed around 6:30-ish. I say ish because it's a little looser than I'd like it to be, but we do our best. After that Kennedy can usually be found studying and I'm back at the computer working or interviewing some more. Our days are pretty plain jane, but there's something to be said for keeping things simple.
