Day 11 - Your Favorite Book

Writer's picture: Lindsay VeeLindsay Vee

As a kid I was an absolute book worm. I always made sure I had a book on me when my family headed somewhere. I probably read when I should've been interacting with people on several occasions, which likely explains why I'm such an introvert. I'm sure it's not shocking that I read a million books about horses. They were my book genre of choice, but there is a shockingly limited number of those. It was a tick disappointing but ultimately forced me to branch out and read books that I wouldn't normally pick. Many of the books I read were very girly and I didn't really expect to like them at first. It's very rare that I've met a book I didn't actually like. But there is one in particular that I've read several times over.

I stumbled upon this book sometime in either junior high or high school. It's a page turner. Even now as an adult, I really enjoy this book. It's definitely geared towards the young adult - teenager - demographics, but it's still a good read. I won't give away the story, but I will let you in on a secret: it's about a circus that comes out at night. You're welcome. Ever since reading this book I'm always on the hunt for the next great circus book. So far I've found two really good ones: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and The Life She Was Given by Ellen Marie Wiseman. I highly recommend all three, which shouldn't be shocking since they made this post in the first place.

Ever since I read this book for the first time, I've been completely fascinated with the circus. It might be shocking that I've never been to an actual circus. And part of me is a little afraid to go now because I have a lot of expectations built on my what my imagination conjured up while reading these books. Who knows, maybe some day I'll get to go to a circus for the first time and see if they measure up in reality. Until then, I'll continue hunting for more books about the circus and see if I can top my favorite of all time.
